On 29 September, Indian twitterati woke up to see that #ModiPunishesPak had taken over their timelines.

PM Narendra Modi's mentions flooded over with congratulatory messages in the wake of reports of a surgical attack by India, believed to be a retaliatory attack in response to Uri strike.

"I assure the nation that those behind this despicable attack will not go unpunished", PM Modi had said in the wake of the Uri attacks on 18 September.

The Indian Army on Wednesday night conducted surgical strikes on terror launch pads at the Line of Control (LoC), the Director General Military Operations (DGMO), Lt Gen Ranbir Singh, said in a press briefing.

This is how Twitter reacted to news of the strike:

Amit Shah himself congratulated Narendra Modi on this spectacular feat, heralding a 'new India'.

Among the slew of congratulatory messages, some Twitter users pointed out that the strike came on the occasion of Shaheed Bhagat Singh's 109th birthday.

There were also a handful of Twitter users who said that the strike had put Pakistan - which was behaving like a 'spoilt child' - in its place.

Then of course, there were the tweets invoking Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 56" chest.

Then of course, there were the cynics.

One Twitter user had an important yet poignant point to make.

And then, there were others who had a humorous reaction to India's retaliation.
