Last week saw the release of three major films at the Kerala Box Office -- the Malayalam dubbed version of Telugu film, Janatha Garage, AR Murugadoss' Bollywood film Akira and Tamil film Kidaari. Interestingly, all three films opened to good reports across Kerala.
1) Janatha Garage
The Malayalam dubbed version of Telugu film, Janatha Garage had a good opening weekend at Kerala Box Office. The film, which stars Malayalam superstar Mohanlal and Malayalam youth icon Unni Mukundan along with Telugu superstar Jr NTR has picked up impressively after an average start at the ticket window. The partial holiday on Monday due to Ganesha Chaturthi has helped the film perform well on the first day of the week as well. The film, which released on Thursday, 1 September, had the advantage of a 5-day weekend and has minted a good Rs 3 crore at the Kerala Box Office. The presence of Laalettan and Muscle Aliyan has helped the film gain a larger audience to watch the action-entertainer flick, directed by Koratala Siva.
Ranjith Shankar - Jayasurya's Pretham continued its excellent run at Kerala Box Office. The horror-comedy flick, which had released on 12 August, has crossed the coveted Rs 10 crore mark at the Kerala Box Office. Pretham also marks a hat-trick of success for Ranjith Sankar - Jayasurya duo after superhit films Punyalan Agarbattis and Su.. Su.. Sudhi Vathmeekam.
Sasikumar's Kidaari has opened at an impressive note at the Kerala Box Office. The Tamil film also marks the directorial debut of Prasath Murugeshan. The film has been praised for it's story, Sasikumar's performances and the lead heroines Nikhila Vimal and Suja Varunee. On its opening weekend, Kidaari collected Rs 50 lakh at the Kerala Box Office.
Like Kidaari, AR Murugadoss' third Bollywood outing Akira too had a good opening weekend at the Kerala Box Office. The action-thriller which stars Sonakshi Sinha as Akira has managed to collect Rs 50 lakh. The film has been praised for Sonakshi's acting, which is touted as her best performance since Lootera.
5) Inspector Dawood Ibrahim
The second Jayasurya-starrer of August, IDI, had an average fourth weekend at the Kerala Box Office. The film stars the National-Award winning actor in a never-seen-before avatar as Inspector Dawood Ibrahim. The mass entertainer marks the directorial debut of actor Sajid Yahiya. By the end of the fourth weekend, IDI has crossed the Rs 5 crore mark and delivered another hit for Jayasurya in 2016 after Pretham.
