Bad news for Mohanlal fans! The superstar's much-awaited film, Pulimurugan, which was scheduled to be released on Eid 2016, is now likely to miss the coveted Box Office slot.

Latest reports suggest that the Mohanlal film may be postponed. However, the makers are yet to make an official announcement. Here are four reasons that may have caused the delay:

1) Shooting delays?

The makers are yet to complete the shooting of Pulimurugan. Mohanlal is also busy to complete his Telugu film Janatha Garage, which is slated to release on 12 August.

2) Pulimurugan is the most expensive Malayalam film till date

A film like Pulimurugan deserves a solo release as the Mohanlal-starrer is touted to be the most expensive Malayalam film ever made. Produced by Tomichan Mulakupadam and directed by Vyshak, the film's budget is reported to be a whopping Rs 18 crore. Pulimurugan also stars Bengali-Telugu actress Kamalini Mukherjee and Kollywood actress Namitha as the female leads. Veteran Telugu actor Jagapati Babu plays the antagonist in the film.

3) Non-availability of required screens

Pulimurugan was scheduled to release on over 2,000 screens worldwide. Unfortunately, two Malayalam films, the Mammooty-starrer Kasaba and the Kunchacko Boban, Jayasurya, Amala Paul film Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum are already slated to release on Eid. The two films - especially Mammooty's Kasaba - may have eaten into the number of screens that the makers ofPulimurugan were looking for.

4) Clash with Kabali and Sultan averted?

The Eid 2016 holiday is set to be a busy one at the Indian Box Office. While Malayalam moviegoers will be spoiled for choice between Kasaba, Pulimurugan and Shajahanum Pareekuttiyum, the Box Office will also see the release of Rajinikanth's Kabali and the Salman Khan-starrer Sultan. Both Kabali and Sultan are hot on trade and are likely to have a mega release both across India and overseas.
