JP Rajkhowa, the Governor of Arunachal Pradesh, flagged off the 12th South Asian Games torch relay for the Arunachal leg, from Itanagar's Raj Bhawan complex on Wednesday, 3 February.

The event, which was attended by a crowd of nearly 2,000 people, including present and former sportspersons, saw Rajkhowa take over the torch from Biswajit Basumatary, who is a professor at Lakshmibai National Institute of Physical Education (North Eastern Region, Guwahati).

The Governor, in turn, handed over the torch to mountaineer Anshu Jansempa.

The South Asian Games torch relay, which was launched in Delhi on 17 January, is currently on its northeastern leg. The sub-continental games are set to begin in Guwahati and Shillong from 5 February.
