Saina Nehwal booked her place in the finals of the Australian Open Badminton on 11 June after putting in a magnificent display by defeating second seed Wang Yihan of China by 21-8, 21-12.

Saina has had a poor record against Wang - a former women singles world champion - as she won four and lost 11 against her. However, this time around, Saina put in a flawless display right from the first game and grabbed a lead without allowing the second seeded Chinese star to get a foothold in the game, NDTV reported.

Saina will play Sun Yu of China in the Australian Open 2016 badminton final.

However, with Kidambi Srikanth crashing out in the semi-final against 12th ranked Hans-Kristian Vittinghus of Denmark, there was some heartbreak for India in the men's singles. Vittinghus won by 22-20, 21-13.

Srikanth, who had a 2-1 head-to-head advantage against Vittinghus, put up a great fight in the first game and at 20-20, it was anybody's game. However, Vittinghus won the crucial point and sealed the game.
