Ace Indian shuttler Saina Nehwal advanced to the quarterfinals of the Indonesia Super Series Premier tournament with a comfortable straight-game win over local favourite Fitriani Fitriani in the women's singles event here on 2 June.

The eighth-seeded Indian, who has won three times at Jakarta, recorded a 21-11 21-10 win over Fitriani in a second round contest that lasted 32 minutes. She will either face world number one Carolina Marin or Akane Yamaguchi for a spot in the semifinals.

Saina is looking for a maiden title of the season after making a slew of semi-final finishes earlier this year. The world number eight failed to breach the last-four stage in the Swiss Grand Prix Gold, India Super Series, Malaysia Super Series Premier Open, and Asia Badminton Championships.

Earlier, Indian challenge in the women's doubles and men's doubles came to an end after the pair of Jwala Gutta and Ashwini Ponnappa, and Manu Attri and B Sumeeth Reddy lost their respective second round games.
