Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam will be meeting Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the National Capital on 19 December, during which he is expected to handover a letter demanding that late AIADMK supremo J Jayalalithaa be bestowed with the prestigious Bharat Ratna.

He is also expected to request the Prime Minister for construction of the late chief minister's bronze statue in Parliament complex.

The Tamil Nadu Cabinet had earlier on December 10 decided to recommend Jayalalithaa's name for India's highest civilian honour, the 'Bharat Ratna'.

In its first meeting chaired by Chief Minister Panneerselvam after Jayalalithaa's demise, the Cabinet also decided to recommend to the Centre installation of her life-size bronze statue in Parliament complex.

After the death of late AIADMK chief Jayalalithaa, Panneerselvam swore in as the Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu earlier on 5 December by Governor Vidyasagar Rao at Raj Bhawan, amid the presence of party leaders.

Jayalalithaa breathed her last at Chennai's Apollo Hospitals on 5 December where she was admitted on 22 September with fever and dehydration.
