Motor Transport organization calls for nationwide motor strike for this reason; all India transportation to be affected

On 7th August, All India Motor Transport organization has called for a one-day nationwide motor vehicle strike against the proposed amendments to the Motor Vehicles Act by the government. The will start today itself in several states.

As all the private buses, taxis and auto-rickshaws will probably take part in the strike, it will affect the transport across the country. Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has also supported the transport strike. It will make the strike further big. The strike will affect normal life on Tuesday.


Lok Sabh has already passed the proposed Motor vehicle Amendment Bill yet it is pending for approval of the Rajya Sabha. After being passed the bill, it will allow the Central government to take away certain powers of the state government and cause wide spread changes in the Motor Vehicle Act of 1988. It will impose heavy penalties and stricter rules.

Kerala State Road Transport Corporation (KRCTC) will take out a token strike along with the motor vehicle strike. The decision was taken after talks between corporation employee’ joint union committee and CMD Tomin Thackankary on Monday not succeeded to reach an agreement on various issues.

The Motor vehicle strike is being supported by TSRTC (Telangana State Road Transport Corporation) buses and autos, halting their services. It got support from all the unions in TSRTC, auto unions, drivers’ association.

In Karnataka, some taxi driver and cab unions have decided to take part into the strike by staying off road from 6 am to 6 pm. However, unions like Bangalore Tourist Taxi Operators’ Association and Federation Karnataka Taxi Driver’s Association said their members will continue to ply.
