BSP chief Mayawati defends building statues in SC, says, 'Represents will of people'

Justifying her move for building statues, for mer UP CM and BSP supremo has submitted in the Supreme Court that the statues “represents the will of people” and hence, they were built.

Built at the cost of crores of public money while she was Chief Minister during 2007-2012, a petition was filed in the apex court against the statues of her and the elephants built in Ambedkar Park of Lucknow and a Dalit Asthal in Noida as well with taxpayers money.


News agency ANI tweeted, “She had filed the affidavit in compliance with the last order of the Supreme Court asking her that prima facie, it seems that she needs to pay back the money as she had spent a lot of public money on installation of many statutes of herself and elephants in UP.”

In the affidavit filed in the Supreme Court, the BSP chief has justified the expenses in installation of her statues and elephant statues in UP, and has state dthat ‘it was the will of people.’

The Supreme Court, had earlier observed that Mayawati might have to deposit the money used in building the statues to the State fund.

Claiming that the State legislature had expressed its respect for a Dalit woman leader, Mayawati had said, “How could I defy the will of the state legislature.”
