In a shocking incident, a Muslim man was beaten by a mob in Madhya Pradesh's Satna district on Friday over a suspicion of cow slaughtering and was critically injured. The incident took place on Wednesday, late night when villagers, armed with sticks and stones, allegedly attacked a group of men while accusing them of slaughtering a cow.

Riaz, 45, died on the spot while, his friend Shakeel, 33 was critically injured on the attack. At least four suspects have been arrested in the incident and filed cases of attempt to murder against them. The four accused have been identified as Pawan Singh Gond, Vijay Singh Gond, Phool Singh Gond and Narayan Singh Gond.

During the investigation, police found a slaughtered bull and meat of two other bulls packed in sacks from the spot, reported Deccan Chronicle.

Satna Superintendent of Police Rajesh Hingankar told the daily that villagers attacked the duo. Riaz, 45, was killed in the incident while Shakeel, 33, is in a critical condition.

According to police officials, two people returning to the village on Thursday saw a group of people with the dead cattle. Four accomplices of Riaz and Shakeel fled, while the duo was beaten up on the spot.

A case has also been filed against Shakeel - who is in a coma in a hospital in Jabalpur - for cow slaughter. However, the families of Shakeel and Riaz have denied cow slaughter charges, say reports.
