The Delhi Police detained JNU students union president Kanhaiya Kumar and 42 others on Friday as they demonstrated at Bihar Bhawan against the alleged attack on Patna Arts College students by the Patna Police "and JDU goons".

Kumar and the other JNU students demanded the suspension of Patna Arts College principal Chandrabhushan Srivastav, the cancellation of the ongoing examinations to be replaced by fresh papers, and an extension of the date of the Bihar Public Service Commission main exams to avoid clashes with the dates of the UPSC preliminaries, according to The Indian Express.

"The condition of education in Bihar is continuously deteriorating," said Kumar. "The government is not taking the demands of students regarding quality education seriously. And those who are fighting for this significant and relevant cause are facing violence and imprisonment."

The police detained Kumar and the others at Parliament Street Police Station on the basis of law and order issues, said DCP (New Delhi) Jatin Narwal.
