Indore-Patna train derailment: Jhansi DRM transferred, 5 engineers suspended

Divisional Railway Manager (DRM), Jhansi, Santosh Aggarwal has been transferred and five engineers suspended after the Indore-Patna express derailed near Kanpur on 20 November morning that claimed as many as 146 lives and left scores injured.

Meanwhile, the railway route at accident site in Kanpur dehat has become functional from late last night hours and passenger trains are now passing through the Pukhrayan route, where the accident occurred.

After the accident, the route was closed for more than 40 hours. The accident claimed 146 lives and left about two hundred injured.

Meanwhile, the Railway Saftey Commissioner, Eastern Circle, PK Acharya has started investigations into the accident.

Acharya examined the broken tracks and damaged coaches at the accident site yesterday and Railway engineers and technical staff were also questioned in connection with the derailment.

The Government Railway Police, GRP of Jhansi has registered an FIR against unknown people including railway officials who were allegedly responsible for the accident.

The FIR was registered under various sections of IPC. 14 coaches of Indore-Patna express were derailed and some of them completely mangled after the accident.

Railway Minister Suresh Prabhu had assured that guilty will be punished and thorough investigation will be carried out.
