DU Professor charged for calling Goddess Durga ‘Sexy Prostitute’ in the Indian mythology

A professor of Dyal Singh College, Delhi University has been booked for insulting Hindu goddess Durga in his Facebook post on 22 September.

Kedar Kumar Mandal who is an assistant professor of Hindi in Dyal Singh College posted a controversial statement on Facebook at 7.43 pm Saturday in which he claimed Goddess Durga to be a 'sexy prostitude.' His facebook post read as, "Durga is the very much sexy prostitute in the Indian mythology." Though he deleted his post but the members of Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) demanded an immediate suspension of the teacher for hurting relegious sentiments.

ABVP's Dayal Singh College unit told a leading daily,"We demand his suspension and we request the student community to boycott his classes. Mandal has provoked sentiments during a festival time of Hindu – Navratri."

 

Chinmoy Biswal, the additional deputy commissioner of police said in a statement to a leading daily,“The complaint was examined and Mandal was booked under section 153A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, etc.) and 295A (deliberate and malicious acts intended to outrage religious feelings of any class by insulting religious beliefs). We are looking if sections of IT Act need to be added.”
