Manipuri student JR Philemon found dead in JNU hostel

A PhD student of the Jawaharlal Nehru University was found dead under mysterious circumstances in his hostel room inside the campus on 25 October.

The deceased has been identified as JR Philemon, a native of Senapti district in Manipur. Philemon was found dead in room no 171 of the Brahmaputra Hostel.

The student had reportedly locked himself up inside the room for last three days. Philemon was pursing his PhD on the subject of West Asia and he hadn't been seen for the last three days, a senior police officer said.

"When a foul smell started emanating from the room, the student in the neighbouring room called other students and security and forcefully opened door. He was found dead in the room," he said.

Investigation is underway to ascertain the cause of death. The body of the deceased has been sent to AIIMS for autopsy. According to sources, bottles of alcohol have been recovered from the room.
