As China blocked the proposal of designating Jaish-e-Mohammad chief as a ‘global tterrorist,’ Opposition has started politicising the issue by attacking the PM Narendra Modi’s bonhomie with China’s President Xi Jinping.

Congress’ senior leader and former Information and Broadcasting Minister Manish Tewari tweeted a picture of PM Modi and President Xi who were sharing their time while the latter visited India in 2016-17 and the Tewari, while taking a jibe, mentioned the ‘muscular diplomacy’ of PM Modi.

Tewari wrote, “@narendramodi rocked on a swing with President Xi, @narendramodi withdrew Indian forces first in Doklam, @narendramodi travelled to Wuhan to release new spirits-Wuhan spirit & China rebuffs is on Massod Azhar third time 2016,2017 & 2019. Some Muscular Diplomacy ain’t it Timothy!”

While another senior leader and former HRD Minister Kapil Sibal tweeted mentioning China as the ‘big brother of Pakistan’ and reminded the Prime Minister of the Wuhan spirit.

Sibal tweeted, “UN Security Council Resolution 1267, Modiji What happened to the Wuhan spirit ? Now that Pakistan's big brother, Has protected Masood Azhar!”

Earlier, in the United Nations Security Council, after a tremendous amount of international pressure to designate Masood Azhar as global terrorist, all eyes were on China who had been blocking this effort since last three times and it followed the same suit by blocking another effort.

The Ministry of External Affairs in a statement said, “We are disappointed by this outcome. This has prevented action by the international community to designate the leader of Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a proscribed and active terrorist organization which has claimed responsibility for the terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir on 14 February 2019. We are grateful for the efforts of the Member States who moved the designation proposal and the unprecedented number of all other Security Council members as well as non-members who joined as co-sponsors.”
