Kolkata Police Commissioner Rajeev Kumar, who has been in news after CM Mamata Banerjee held dharna in his support against the CBI inquiry, has been posted as ADG and IGP of CID.

Anuj Sharma will be succeeding him as the new Police Commissioner of Kolkata and Rajeev Kumar has been transferred to CID. Kumar, who had helmed the post in May 2016 for a tenure of 3 years was likely to hand over the charge of the Police Commissioner to his successor.

After the BJP and the Congress accused Rajeev Kumar of tapping their phone calls during the state election, the Election Commission had asked the administration to replace him but later he was reinstated. As per sources, the BJP has been putting pressure upon the leadership at the Centre to replace several IPS officers who are said to be close to CM Mamata Banerjee.
