In a shocking incident, a huge stock of liquor was seized from SHO’s official residence on Monday after senior officials raided the police station and his house. Over 300 cartons of Indian made foreign liquor (IMFL) bottles were recovered in Bihar where the state government has banned liquor in 2016. Value of the bottles is yet to be ascertained.

Following which, the Muzaffarpur range police authority suspended the SHO and an ASI of Motipur police station on Monday. The authority has also removed and replaced the entire staff-- there were 20 police personnel including the station house officer (SHO).

As per reports, the SHO was in the rampant trade and smuggling of liquor in the police station area since prohibition was enforced in Bihar in 2016. SHO, Amitabh Kumar and ASI America Prasad, have been found indulging in selling the banned liquor from their official residences and even police station premises.

“We have found that he was indulging in sale of liquor from the police station and home. Continued dip in the recovery of liquor also laid credence to the charges on him”, IG added.

According to reports in HT, the excise department officials have also recovered cash and incriminating documents, which could reveal how deep the nexus was between him and the liquor smugglers. The SHO, who had fled the scene during the raids, still remains absconding. A case under a section of Bihar excise act would be lodged against him, excise officials said.
