Assam: 20 villages in Jorhat district hit by flash floods

Over 20 villages in Dhakorgora block of Assam's Jorhat district have been affected by flash floods triggered by heavy rain on 8 July.

The floods in Assam have affected around 1.5 lakh people across the state. With Lakhimpur being the worst hit in northern Assam where more than 52,000 people were affected by the floods the other reportedly hit districts are Dhemaji, Jorhat, Golaghat, Nagaon, Morigaon, Barpeta, and Biswanath.

According to reports, around 6, 991.68 hectares of agricultural land have also been affected in flood-hit districts.

On 29 June, Guwahati, the state's capital, had become the first city in the country to conduct a mock drill for tackling urban floods and 7 July, the city was submerged in water.

Last year, over 40 persons were killed and nearly 18 lakh people affected due to floods in Assam.
