Another Dana Majhi: Man carries dead daughter on shoulder for 15 km in Odisha

It seems the Odisha government hasn't learned anything from its past mistake. In yet another shocking incident - reminiscent of the Dana Majhi episode - a man on Wednesday carried his dead daughter on his shoulders after failing to get a hearse.

The man, identified as Gati Dhibhar, of Pechamundi village, walked for around 15 km carrying his five-year-old daughter, who died at the Palahada Community Health Centre (CHC) in Angul.

Dhibhar's ordeal is similar to Dana Majhi's, who carried his dead wife on his shoulders for 13 km.

Majhi's episode had drawn flak and hogged headlines, and the state government faced nationwide backlash.

While expressing grief over Dhibhar's plight, Anil Kumar Samal, the District Collector of Angul, said an explanation has been sought from the SDMO and assured that appropriate action would be taken.

"Following dead body carrying incident in Palahada, the sub-collector visited the spot and spoke to the family members of the deceased. On the basis of the report, security guard and junior hospital manager have been suspended. We shall ensure nothing undignified happens with any dead body," Samal added.
