Following the issuance of show cause notices to Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, and Ram Gopal Yadav, Samajwadi Party supremo Mulayam Singh Yadav announced their expulsion from the party for a period of six years.

"No one has the right to call for national executive meet other than the party chief," Mulayam Singh Yadav said, sending home the message that he continues to be the be all and end all of the Samajwadi Party.

"We don't want to take harsh steps against anyone, but we had no choice in Ram Gopal Yadav's case," he said adding, "How could Ram Gopal Yadav call for emergency national executive meet without my permission?''

"I have worked really hard to make this party, what was their role in this? I work hard and they reap the fruits?" added Mulayam Singh.

"For us, party is the most important and our priority is to save the party," Mulayam said, adding that they will decide who the next Chief Minister of Uttar Pradesh is going to be, following Akhilesh Yadav's expulsion.
