A 53-year-old businessman plunged to his death while parasailing at a college festival in Tamil Nadu's Coimbatore on 7 August.

The man died after falling from a height of around 60 metres. According to the police, his safety harness was not properly attached.

The incident occurred at a college festival at Codissia Ground, organised by the Coimbatore Medical College.

In a video, the crowd can be seen rushing to save the deceased - identified as Malleshwara Rao - as he comes crashing down. According to witnesses, Rao was hanging precariously with his safety belt unfastened to the paragliding gears.

"We are investigating. It appears the safety harness was either not latched to the glider or it was latched but snapped later," NDTV quoted a police officer as saying. The officer also alleged that the organisers had failed to procure required permissions.

The private parasailing operator is allegedly missing.
