Uttar Pradesh: Woman burnt to death by in-laws over dowry, another allegedly hanged

A 26-year-old woman was allegedly burnt to death by her husband and in-laws over dowry at Chkrowala village in Muzaffarnagar, police said.

The victim, Amrita, was allegedly killed by her husband Pradeep, his brother Omkar and his uncles Setho and Ashok, police said.

According to the police, Gagan, the victim's brother, lodged a complaint claiming that his sister was being harassed for dowry since her marriage and that she had been murdered over the same.

A case has been registered against the four accused who are absconding.

In a separate incident, a 23-year-old woman was found hanging in her house, late on 7 May at UP's Buddakheri village, police said.

Her brother has lodged a complaint claiming that the victim's husband Atul and in-laws had allegedly hanged her to death, they said.

He alleged that Atul and his family were harassing her for dowry since their marriage in April 2010, police said.

A case has been registered against Atul and five members of his family, police added.
