Former senior Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) leader Swami Prasad Maurya today joined the Bhartiya Janata Party in the presence of party president Amit Shah, general secretary in charge of UP Om Mathur, state unit chief Keshav Prasad Maurya and senior leaders Rameshwar Chaurasia and Shrikant Sharma.

According to a report in The Hindu, following Maurya's induction into the party, Keshav Prasad Maurya said his namesake had been earlier misused by his former party and he will now help the BJP in countering the corrupt rule of Samajwadi Party and BSP.

Maurya had quit the BSP after he made a series of allegations against Mayawati on selling party tickets.

Before Maurya left the BSP, he was the Leader of the Opposition in the Uttar Pradesh Assembly.
