In yet another case of atrocities against Dalits in Uttar Pradesh, a 70-year-old Dalit man fractured his foot after he was brutally attacked with a shovel in Sahawanpur village, Kaushambi district while he was filling water in a bucket from a government installed hand pump.

According to a Pradesh18 report, the accused was allegedly enraged because the victim- Dasyu Pasi - moved the former's bucket aside and kept his bucket there instead. Infuriated with Dasyu's action, the youth allegedly attacked him with a shovel.

Hearing the old man's cries for help, his family reached the spot and took him to the nearby hospital, where doctors confirmed that his foot was fractured.

Following the incident, the police registered a case. A probe is in progress and a manhunt has also been launched to nab the culprit, who has been absconding since the incident occurred.
