In what was one of the most unusual murder reported from Maharashtra‘s Mumbai, two people lying on pavements were bludgeoned to death by a man who smashed their heads with a heavy rock.

The first incident occurred in an area which falls under the jurisdiction of Byculla police station and the other one took place in an area within the limits of JJ Marg Police station. The two murders took place within a gap of 15 minutes last Saturday and both were perpetrated by the same person.

The two killings were caught on CCTV whose footages have been recovered by police. In one CCTV footage recovered from JJ Marg, the attacker could be seen walking a bustling footpath. He then stops by a sleeping man and picks up a heavy stone and smashes his head, according to a report by Indian Express.

According to the report, even the pedestrian walking along the road did not intercede and allowed the assailant to walk away.

The second man was murdered on a footpath just outside the Byculla fruit market. After looking through the CCTV footage, police identified the accused as Suresh Shankar Gauda, aged 40. He was taken into police custody on Sunday.

Police are yet to put a name on the two deceased persons. Quoting police sources, the report said that Guda did not know either of the victims. Police said the accused has confessed to the twin murders.

Furthermore, the accused also told the cops that he was earlier arrested for allegedly killing a pavement dweller in 2015 . However, the court later acquitted him for want of sufficient evidence.

An IPS officer who wish to remain anonymous said “He likes to see people suffer, that is what we have gathered,”

Futrher investigation into the matter is underway.
