Rajinikanth fever: Kabali Day has taken the nation by storm

One of Asia\'s highest paid actors, Rajinikanth is considered as one of the most bankable stars in India.

Even before its release, the gangster drama, Kabali, has ranked in some 30 million in film rights sales. It has also been dubbed in Telugu, Hindi and Malay.

Businesses in southern India have given their employees the day off to avoid people calling in sick, turning off phones or simply failing to turn up for work today.

In Chennai, car bonnets are being painted over with Kabali stickers and hair stylists provided special cuts for men that cropped the film\'s name or the star\'s face into the hairdo.

In Bengaluru, a five-and-half feet tall clay statue of Rajnikanth in the film, in black Italian suit, sunglasses and European watch will greet fans at Nataraj Theatre.

Also, budget airline Air Asia laid a special Kabali flight carrying 180 Rajinikanth fans today. In a career spanning four decades, the 65-year old actor has starred in more than 170 films, most of them are in Tamil language.
