Will the real leading lady of Spider-Man: Homecoming please stand up? The conflicting reports of who Disney star Zendaya Coleman is playing in the upcoming Spidey film has taken an interesting turn.
Everything we've heard and read about the film points the finger at Zendaya portraying a non-comic book character, Michelle, who Spider-Man is head over heels in.
However, TheWrap has gone ahead and done an 'exclusive' where they say that Zendaya is, in fact, playing Mary Jane. By way of explanation, the article says:
"At least one recent draft of the script has Zendaya's character dropping several clues to her identity as Mary Jane, one of the most familiar love interests in the Marvel superhero's universe - and played by Kirsten Dunst in Sam Raimi's 2002-07 movie trilogy starring Tobey Maguire as the webslinger."
Umm. So no actual proof by way of photos of the said draft but TheWrap would still like you to know that Spidey's love interest is MJ and not Michelle as Marvel would have you believe.
Sony, Marvel and Zendaya all declined to say anything about this 'revelation', which makes TheWrap believe they're are just being secretive. The cast of Spider-Man: Homecoming includes Tom Holland (as the superhero), Michael Keaton, Donald Glover, Jacob Batalon, Laura Harrier, Tony Revolori, Tyne Daly, Bokeem Woodbine, Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Jr.
Spider-Man: Homecoming will see a worldwide release on July 7, 2017.
