QS World University Rankings 2016: IISc, IITs drop further in global ranking

The Indian Institute of Science (IISc) Bangalore is the country's top varsity, according to the QS World University Rankings 2016-17.

This year, the institute has dropped to the 152nd spot from its 147th rank in the 2015-16 ranking.

The QS World rankings, released on Monday, also featured other Indian institutes, including the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs).

Rankings of Indian Institutes:

219: IIT Bombay

249: IIT Madras

302: IIT Kanpur

313: IIT Kharagpur

399: IIT Roorkee

481-490: Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati (IITG)

501-550: University of Delhi

651-700: University of Calcutta

701+: Banaras Hindu University

701+: Panjab University

701+: University of Mumbai

701+: University of Pune

The top 20 universities of the world are:

4. University of Cambridge

"Each of the six indicators carries a different weighting when calculating the overall scores (see below). Four of the indicators are based on 'hard' data, and the remaining two are based on major global surveys - one of academics and another of employers - each the largest of their kind," QS stated on its website.
