Diesel taxis to ply in NCR till their permit expires: Supreme Court

The Supreme Court on 10 May finally gave a nod to diesel taxis with All India Tourist permit to operate in Delhi/NCR till their permit expires.

According to ANI, the apex court has said that these diesel taxis will have to comply with regulations of safety, security and fare.

Additionally, the Supreme Court has enforced a ban on the registration of new diesel cars and taxis in the NCR area.

This comes days after the Delhi government moved the Supreme Court against the ban on diesel cabs from plying in the city.

The Kejriwal-led government had reportedly said that the Supreme Court order had caused law and order problems in the city and requested that the Supreme Court remove diesel cabs from NCR in a phased manner.

Last month, the Supreme Court had ruled that diesel cabs will be banned from the National Capital following which cab drivers blocked roads to protest against the decision.
