The Delhi Police Commissioner, BS Bassi has responded to the allegations made by former Delhi law minister and AAP leader, Somnath Bharti, on 16 September.

Commissioner Bassi said he was surprised by Bharti's comments and asserted that the Police have handled the case without any bias. As per media reports, he added that Bharti should learn to respect women instead of casting aspersions on the police

On 15 September, after a stay order on his arrest by the Delhi High Court, Bharti took to twitter and accused 'Modi police' of handling the case in a suspicious manner. He also alleged that there was no response from the police even after his written submission asserting that he was available for investigation 24/7.

Bharti's wife, Lipika Mitra, has accused him of domestic violence and attempt to murder and a non-bailable arrest warrant was issued against him by a Delhi court. After the Delhi HC granted him interim relief till 17 September, Bharti surrendered at a police station today.
