Video: Ravi Shastri reveals the reason why MS Dhoni took the ball from umpire

After losing the series 2-1 against England, the  social media was abuzz with speculation that the MS Dhoni taking the retirement from the ODIs.

The speculations came when MS Dhoni asked for the ball from umpires Bruce Oxenford (Australia) and Michael Gough (England) as the teams walked back towards the pavilion. 


As per reported in Times of India dismissing all the speculation on Dhoni's retirement , Shastri cited that"MS Dhoni wanted to show the ball to Bharat Arun. He wanted to show him the wear and tear the ball had endured, to get a general idea of what the conditions were like."

"But right now, all this clamour is nonsense. He just wanted to show the ball to Arun to just have a look at it after close to 45 overs had been bowled."

Indian skipper Virat Kohli rescued MS Dhoni for his poor in the ODIs series.

He said "Also, you want to take the innings deep; you don't want to just lose by 160-170 runs, and he has the experience, but some days it just doesn't come off. Other people jump to conclusions, but we don't -- we totally believe in him."

The 2011 world cup winning captain MS Dhoni announced his retirement from Tests in 2014. He has played 321 ODIs and 93 T20Is.

In  his 321ODIs career Dhoni has scored 10046 runs at an average of 51.25. He has 10 centuries and 67 fifties to his name.

Dhoni has smashed 1487 runs in 93 T20Is at an average of 37.17, including two half-centuries in his career.
