The dates for 2019 edition of Indian Premier League has been announced by the organisers. Defending champions Chennai Super Kings will play Virat Kohli-led Royal Challengers Bangalore in the opener on March 23 in Chennai’s MA Chidambaram Stadium.

Royal Challengers Bangalore’s official Twitter handle termed the match against Chennai Super Kings as the “spicy South Indian derby”. And the Virat Kohli-led team was also not happy to play their first game away from Bengaluru and its fans.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore wrote, “A spicy south Indian Derby for starters - but we prefer the sweet sambar...Our VIVO IPL 2019 begins away from Bengaluru on Day 1.” To which Chennai Super Kings replied, “But sambar is always #Yellove in colour no?”

However, the dates announced are only for first seventeen matches, where each team will play a minimum of 4 matches each while Delhi and Bangalore will play five matches. Every team will play two away and two home matches with Delhi playing three home matches and Bangalore playing three away games.

The Royal Challengers Bangalore finished last year’s IPL at number six on the points table while their counterpart Chennai Super Kings made a fairytale comeback after a two year ban and went on to win their third IPL title.

It will be interesting to see if Royal Challengers Bangalore and Virat Kohli can win their first IPL title this year or they will once again finish it on a bad note. The IPL 2019 has been preponed because of ICC Cricket World Cup starting from May this year.
