The 'run machine' of Indian cricketer Virat Kohli got a duck in the first Test against Sri Lanka in the first match of three-match series and with his duck, he equals a dubious record made by former Indian skipper Kapil Dev. The legendary all-rounder of India Kapil holds the record of maximum ducks as Indian skipper in a calendar year. In the year 1983 former Indian skipper Kapil Dev had got five ducks in a calendar year.

Other than Kapil and Virat, the former Indian skipper Bishen Singh Bedi got out four times without scoring any runs for the country in 1976. Sourav Ganguly also achieved this feat twice first in 2001 and 2002. In 2011 captain cool of Indian cricket MS Dhoni also joined this league with four ducks in a calendar year.

Virat Kohli's dismissal on the first day was his fifth duck in 2017. The most interesting thing about Kohli's duck was that all his ducks were either against Sri Lanka or Australia.

Here is list of Virat Kohli's ducks in 2017:

On 23 February (1st Innings, Test) vs Australia at Pune
On 8 June (ODI) vs Sri Lanka at The Oval
On 17 September (ODI) vs Australia at Chennai
On 10 October (T20I) vs Australia at Guwahati

Incidentally, this is the third time when Indian skipper Virat Kohli had scored zero in two Test matches before today Kohli had got two ducks in the calendar year 2011 and 2014.
