1983 World Cup, Ind vs WI: This Indian cricketer turned the dice of the match; know who is he?

For Indian cricketer fans, 25th June is the biggest day which one can not forget. Do you remember? Well, on 25th June, Indian cricket team had won the World Cup match after defeating West Indies in 1983 World Cup. In this World Cup, Indian skipper Kapil Dev had performed a great job and because of his super hit performance, team Indian could able to reach to the final match. However, Dev could not perform well on the final day of the match.

But do you know which player had made the country to win the match?


Well, many of cricket fans did n’t aware of this player name about whom we are talking today. Therefore, today we are going to reveal the name of this star player of the match whose name has been lost somewhere in the history of Cricket.

During the World Cup tournament, Kapil Dev had performed tremendously and showed his best in both fields either in bowling or batting. Indian skipper had scored the whopping runs 303 in the tournament. Kapil had scored 303 runs in total 8 matches with an average of 60 and with a strike rate at 108. While talking about his bowling, he had taken 12 wickets in 8 matches with an average 2.91 and 2.91 economy. Roger Binny(18) had become the player who took the highest wicket during the tournament.

 

 

West Indies reached to the final of 1983 World Cup after winning the two World Cup, while Indian team was counted among the average teams. However, at that time, the one day match consisted of 60 overs. Indian had lost the toss and West Indies elected to bowl first.

From team India side, K. Srikanth had scored 38 runs and India could able to score 183 runs in 60 overs and gave the 184 runs target to WI to win the match.

The team was all out in front of the star players of West Indies Sir Andy Roberts, Michael Holding and Malcolm Marshall. From WI side, Sir Viv Richards had scored 33 runs but unfortunately, WI could able to score only 140 runs.

 

 

Despite, scoring low scores, India had won the match by 43 runs. Well, the man behind the success of the team was Mohinder Amarnath, who did fantastic bowling in the World Cup.

Earlier, Mohinder had scored 26 runs in the match and when he came for bowling he had taken 3 wickets which helped India to lift the World Cup trophy.
