Google Pay App Alert! 'How Google’s Gpay app is operating authorisation?' Delhi HC asks RBI

The Delhi High Court on Wednesday sought an explanation from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI) over the functioning of the Google’s mobile payments app GPay for the financial transaction without the requisite authorisation from it.

According to PTI, a bench headed by Chief Justice Rajendra Menon and Justice AJ Bhambhani posed the query to the central bank while hearing public interest litigation (PIL) which claimed that GPay was acting as a payments system provider in violation of the Payments and Settlements Act.

The PIL also claimed that GPay app has no valid authorisation from the central bank of the country to carry out such functions. The plea was filed by Abhijit Mishra following which court issued a notice to the Reserve Bank of India and Google India seeking their stand on the matter.
