The Shahid Kapoor - Alia Bhatt romantic comedy Shaandaar, set against the backdrop of a destination wedding, has raked in Rs 13.10 crore on its opening day.

The film has surpassed R.Rajkumar (Rs 10.10 crore) and 2 States (Rs 12.28 crore) to become Shahid Kapoor and Alia Bhatt's biggest opener till date

However, that's where the good news ends. Shaandaar's opening day numbers are below expectations. With the benefit of the Dussehra holiday, the film should have ideally raked in above Rs 15 crore.

The Vikas Bahl directorial performed the best at Mumbai, Delhi and other big cities while the mass dominated areas failed to see much interest.

The film has garnered negative reviews and may find it difficult to trend well from here on.

With a high budget and massive expectations riding on the film, recovery looks tough. We'll just have to wait and watch.
