Sanjay Leela Bhansali's Devdas has clocked 14 years. The magnum opus, which featured Shah Rukh Khan, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, Madhuri Dixit and Jackie Shroff in lead roles, was the first Hindi film to receive an official invitation to Cannes International Film Festival.

On the 14th anniversary of the film's release on Tuesday, SRK took to Twitter to express how this 2002 film will always be special to him.

Devdas narrated the story of a man Devdas (SRK), who was in love with Paro (Aishwarya Rai) since childhood. But when Devdas's family didn't approve of their relationship, he left the house and sought refuge at a brothel, owned by Chandramukhi (Madhuri Dixit).

Based on the 1917 Sharat Chandra Chattopadhyay novel Devdas, the film also featured Kirron Kher, Smita Jaykar and Milind Gunaji in pivotal roles. Here are 7 facts you might not know about the film:

1. Devdas was first offered to Salman Khan who refused to take it up and the role later went to Shah Rukh Khan. At that time, Salman and Aishwarya were dating each other.

2. While shooting for the film, Aishwarya hit herself badly and had to rest for a few days. Salman had taken care of the actress at the time.

3. Rumours had it that Madhuri Dixit was pregnant with her first child during the filming of the famous song, Dola Re Dola. However, she never confirmed the news.

4. The popular international artist, Snoop Dogg used the song Silsila Ye Chaahat Ka for his songSnoop Dogg Millionaire.

5. Madhuri Dixit's giant green anarkali lehenga was designed by Neeta Lulla and weighed 15 kg. The outfit had real gold and silver embroidery all over.

6. Both Bhansali and music director Ismaill Darbar took more than two and a half years to create the music of Devdas.

7. Jackie Shroff's character of Chunni Babu was first offered to Govinda and Saif Ali Khan. Post that, it was offered to Manoj Bajpai who refused to take it up saying he was doing lead roles in his other films at that time.
