MS Dhoni: The Untold Story is off to a bumper start at the Box Office. The film starring Sushant Singh Rajput, Disha Patani raked in around Rs 21.30 crore on its opening day.
The morning shows of the film across India recorded an occupancy of around 50% which grew towards the end of the day to 70%. Its performance at multiplex-dominated areas like Mumbai, Delhi, Pune, Kolkata (yes, even Kolkata) is phenomenal, to say the least.
The movie attracted viewers even at mass circuits like East Punjab, Rajasthan, CI, CP to name a few. MS Dhoni Biopic is easily the second biggest opener of the year after Sultan.
Top 3 opening days of 2016:
- Sultan: Rs 36.50 crore
- MS Dhoni: Rs 21.30 crore
- Fan: Rs 19.20 crore
The film's budget is on the higher side and it is essential for it to record a healthy trend at the Box Office even after the opening weekend. After a front-loaded opening day, Saturday might see a 10 to 15% drop in collections. The Navratri celebrations in Mumbai and Gujarat might also have an impact on the night shows.
While the audience response so far is positive, we shall get a clearer idea about the word of mouth by looking at the film's performance on Monday.
