Kareena Kapoor, after Singham Returns is to feature in Salman Khan's debut production Bajrangi Bhaijaan as Rasika. In an interview to Catch, the actress discussed her character and spoke of Harshali Malhotra, Salman Khan, Shah Rukh Khan
and Udta Punjab. Here's what she said:
Catch: How different is your role in Bajrangi Bhaijaan from all other films?
Kareena: I am working with Kabir for the first time and my role in the film is of a school teacher from Chandni Chowk, Delhi. This is a big commercial film; the kinds that have always been a part of my blood. Apart from me, even Salman will be seen in a very different character in the film. We have seen Salman in Ready, Kick and Wanted but in Bajrangi Bhaijaan you will get to see a completely new side of Salman. Bajrangi Bhaijaan is a very challenging film for Salman and me to do together as after a long time his fans will get to see a film with strong performances and in depth drama.
Everyone is talking about Harshali Malhotra (Munni), what do you have to say about her?
Kareena: She is amazing. I don't know how difficult it would have been for Kabir to find her because not only is she a wonderful actress but also a diva. When she didn't want to shoot for 2-3 hours, the shoot had to be postponed and with kids it's anyway difficult to make the time for shoot. I think she is going to be the real star of the film because of her performance is amazing. She is the most important part of the film.
Catch: After Kyun Ki, Main Aur Mrs Khanna and Bodyguard, this is the fourth time you are working with Salman, how was it working with him again?
Kareena: I know Salman since Nischay in 1994 and working with him is always a great experience. Salman has matured a lot as a person in last 20 years - He is a calmer now and looks even better. He is a strong person by heart and does not let anything affect the shoot.
Catch: You worked with Salman in Atul Agnihotri's debut production Bodyguard, Arbaaz's debut direction Dabangg 2 and now you are working with him in his debut production Bajrangi Bhaijaan. How does it feel?
It is of course a great feeling in fact I feel honoured to be a part of Salman's first home production. And come on, who would say a no to Salman Khan - Kabir Khans first production?
Catch: What are your expectations from the box office performance of Bajrangi Bhaijaan?
Kareena: We have handpicked all successful combos of last few years - Salman and I after Bodyguard, Salman and Kabir after Ek Tha Tiger and Salman and Nawaz after Kick so that all the combinations mix and Bajrangi Bhaijaan is an even bigger success.
Catch: How was the experience shooting for the film in Kashmir?
Kareena: Kashmir has been a place where everyone from the Kapoor family had shot except for me. It was a wonderful experience shooting over here. The people in Kashmir just love Salman and they would come from various places just to watch Salman shoot.
Catch: Tell us something about Udta Punjab
Kareena: In Bajrangi Bhaijaan I play a school teacher from Delhi and in Udta Punjab plays the role of a doctor from Amritsar. It is such a fantastic film I am dying for its release. The narration of the story itself made me cry after which I just said one thing to Abhishek Chaubey -"I want to be a part of the film under any circumstances". Udta Punjab is a film which will leave an impression in people's hearts. I believe it is a film which will become the talk of the town. The film is a 3 track story and Shahid but I are not opposite each other in the film.
Which is the one quality you love the most about Shah Rukh Khan and Salman Khan?
Kareena: I love the amount of energy in Shah Rukh Khan. Whenever I have met Shah Rukh, he has been full of energy and I guess the black coffee is the reason for him being so energetic.
The best quality about Salman is that he is the biggest superstar of India and he does not feel it, know it nor will he let anybody feel the same. He is just there, he is being Salman Khan and he is the biggest superstar anyone can ever be.
