Karan Johar’s favourite on-screen mother Farida Jalal turns 70; know which romantic role turned her career

Farida Jalal is one of the favourite mothers on-screen she is not just known for her mother roles but has also romanced Rajesh Khanna in a lead role. Farida made her debut with movie ‘Taqdeer’ in 1967 and since then she has done more than 200 films in Hindi, Tamil and Telugu industries. Farida is widely known for her role in Henna, Paras among others. She was also known for her role in Aradhana where she romanced Rajesh Khanna in the song ‘Bago Mai Bahar Hai’.

Farida Jalal has turned 70 years old today on 14th March, yes it's her birthday today and we are still counting. She was much loved in Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge where she played the role of Kajol’s mother and aced the role well. Not only movies she has also worked in Television and was best known for her role as ‘Nani’ in Sharaarat she was also known for her role in Yeh Jo Hai Zindagi, Dekh Bhai Dekh, Satrangi Sasural among others.

Farida Jalal married her love Tabrez Barmavar whom she first met on the sets of Jeevan Rekha and fell in love with him and in 1978 they both got married. While in 2003 her husband died, together they have a son named Yaseen.

Last year in 2017 someone spread the rumours of Farida being dead which took the internet on fire, Farida who was unaware of this incident later got to know through phone calls who were calling her to know whether she is fine or not. In an interview, she said that for half an hour she was laughing but then soon composed herself and then revealed that its a rumour and she is very much alive.

On the work front, she was last seen in Shahid Kapoor starrer Batti Gul Meter Chalu film where she aces the role of Shraddha’s grandmother.
