Judwaa 2: I had to direct the film when Varun was cast in it, says David Dhawan

Judwaa 2 has been in news ever since Sajid Nadiadwala announced that Varun Dhawan will replace Salman Khan in the sequel to the 1996 super hit directed by David Dhawan.

The film, which was initially slated to go on floors by July 2016, has now been pushed to the year-end as director David Dhawan wants to come up with a story that justifies the sequel instead of just cashing in on the popularity of Judwaa.

"We are going to start shooting by the end of the year. Right now, I am working on the script. We have to make sure the story justifies a sequel. We can't just work on a sequel to cash in on a successful film. That's why we waited 18 years to do the sequel," said Dhawan.

David Dhawan also revealed that he is directing Judwaa 2 for no one but Varun Dhawan.

"I am in this because of my son and my friend producer Sajid Nadiadwala. Sajid and I go back a long way. When Varun was cast in Judwaa 2, I had to direct the sequel."

Having directed over 15 successful films, David feels this is a right time to make films in Bollywood as the Indian audience is evolving.

"This is a good time to make films. So many different kinds of films are being made for the audience. But one thing remains unchanged. The audience wants entertainment. I have always tried to provide entertainment in my films. I am going to try my best to do the same in Judwaa 2," he explained.

Judwaa 2 is slated to release in 2017.
