Recently, Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) leaders threatened to damage the property of theatre owners in Mumbai if they screen Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. Following these threats, the film's producers - Dharma Production and Fox Star Studios - decided to seek police protection.

The officials from the two production houses met the Mumbai Police Commissioner on 17 October who promised complete support to Ae Dil Hai Mushkil. DCP of Mumbai Police, Ashok Dudhe, in an official statement said:

"We, Mumbai Police will provide adequate protection to cinema theatres as and when required."

The support from Mumbai police might come as a breather to Karan Johar as well as cinema owners who can now screen the romantic film without much of ado. Starring Ranbir Kapoor, Aishwarya Rai, Anushka Sharma, and Fawad Khan, Ae Dil Hai Mushkil is slated to release this Diwali, on 28 October 2015.
