Udta Punjab: Shahid Kapoor is Gabroo the rockstar; trailer out on 16 April

The first motion poster of Balaji Motion Pictures' Udta Punjab is out. Its ensemble cast includes Kareena Kapoor Khan, Shahid Kapoor, Alia Bhatt and Diljit Dosanjh in the lead.

The poster speaks volumes about the film's concept as it says 'Drugs Di Maa Di'.

While not much about the film's plot - apart from its theme - has been revealed, it seems Shahid is essaying the character of a rockstar in the film.

According to a leading daily, Shahid's character in the Abhishek Chaubey film is that of a rockstar who gets embroiled in a drug-related controversy. The actor plays Gabroo the rockstar and has also sported some temporary tattoos for the role.

He had also got blue and red streaked hair for the look, the photos of which could be seen on his Instagram timeline a while back.

"The character is whacko and entertaining. There is one sequence in particular that Shahid's really excited about, an open-air concert with him performing atop a truck, shirtless. The song is a combination of trance music and Punjabi beats. He has shot other interesting concert sequences and had a blast in his rockstar avatar," the report quoted a source from the sets.

Earlier, it was reported that Alia plays an aspiring hockey player, Bihari Nanda, who comes to Punjab from Bihar to chase her dreams but ends up working as a labourer in the city.

Being co-produced by Phantom Films and Balaji Motion Pictures, Udta Punjab is releasing on 17 June. As revealed by critic and trade analyst Taran Adarsh, the official trailer of the film is out on 16 April.
