2016 has ended on a high for Bollywood with Dangal proving to be one of the biggest blockbusters in Indian cinema by raking in over 350 crore. However if we take an overview of the year, it was rather a disappointing one for the film industry.
The year created two records:
1. Maximum releases in a single year.
2. Maximum flops in a single year.
Out of approximately 225 releases, merely 16 managed to recover their investment while the rest were major flops at the Box-Office. The year witnessed 4 major disasters in the form of Fitoor, Mohenjo Daro, Baar Baar Dekho and Mirzya.
The success ratio for the year was merely 7% which is one of the worst ever since Independence. The constant increase in ticket rates has resulted in a massive decline in footfalls. In comparison to 2015, there was a considerable drop in number of tickets sold as well.
