As the govt cracks down on risque selfies, 10 of the most daredevil selfies ever taken

In November 2013, the word \'selfie\' was declared the word of the year by the Oxford Dictionary, marking the beginning of a trend that just refuses to die down. The selfie fever has had us in its grip since a couple of years now, and the obsession keeps getting wilder.

While the occasional duck-face selfie, or selfies with the childhood heart-throb of your dreams don\'t hurt, some of us like to take it to the extreme. Extremes of stupidity, that is.

Since 2013, the number of selfie deaths has sky-rocketed with every passing year, as dare-devils (daft ones at that) have sought to defy laws of physics, as well as common sense, putting their lives in danger to capture selfies in the most treacherous conditions.

The death-by-selfie phenomenon has now become such a hazard, that the Indian government has decided to implement a plethora of measures to combat this menace.

The Central government mandate would require state governments and union territory administrations to put up danger signs, demarcating unsafe spots where lives have been claimed due to carelessness while taking selfies. Training guides will also be provided at such locations to avoid mishaps.

The guidelines lay down that guards will be deployed at sites that come under the Ministry of Tourism or the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to ensure no slip-ups. CCTV cameras will also be installed to monitor the movements of tourists at accident-prone spots.
