Congress leader Rahul Gandhi is set to visit his former constituency of Wayanad in Kerala on Tuesday, marking his first visit since being disqualified as a Member of Parliament (MP).

The visit will include a public rally and a roadshow in Wayanad, where he is expected to address his supporters.

Defamation Case and Disqualification
In 2019, Rahul Gandhi made a remark about the surname 'Modi' during a campaign event ahead of the Lok Sabha elections, which led to a criminal defamation case against him.

The case was filed in Surat and resulted in Rahul Gandhi's conviction and sentencing.

As per a Supreme Court ruling from 2013, any MP or MLA who is convicted and sentenced to two years or more stands to be automatically disqualified.

Following his conviction, Rahul Gandhi lost his membership in the Lower House of Parliament on March 24, 2022.

Rahul Gandhi's Return to Wayanad
Rahul Gandhi's visit to Wayanad is expected to draw a large crowd, as he reconnects with his former constituency.

This marks an important moment, as the Congress leader returns to his former constituency for the first time since his disqualification as an MP.
