Dhanteras 2022: Know shubh muhurat, puja timing and story of Dhanteras

This year, Diwali, the festival of lights, will be celebrated with pomp and religious zeal on October 24. Diwali is one of the main festivals of the Hindus and it is believed that teh festival brings light, love, and prosperity.

During the time of the grand festival, Lakshmi Puja, Govatsa Dwadashi, and Dhanteras Puja will take place.

It is believed that Dhanteras Puja will bring wealth and prosperity in the homes of the devotees. The puja, which takes place at the beginning of Diwali, marks the beginning of the festivities. Lord Ganesha and goddess Laxmi are worshipped together with Lord Kubera (the god of wealth).

This year, the grand puja will be observed on October 22. As per Drik Panchang, the mahurat will start at 7:01 pm on October 22 and will end at 8:17 pm on October 22.

Dhanteras Puja: Story of Dhanteras

As per Hindu mythology, Samudra Manthan was done by all gods, on this day, to take out Amrit (elixir). Dhanvantri, the lord of Ayurveda, emerged during the Samudra Manthan. Dhanvantri appeared with the elixir in one hand and the holy text of Ayurveda in the other. He is also referred to as the physician of gods and goddesses.

Dhanteras Puja: Significance

Because it is believed that Lord Dhanvantri appeared on this day, the Puja is also observed as National Ayurveda Day. People across the country clean and whitewash their homes; decorate them with colourful rangoli, lights, and diyas. In the evening, Lord Dhanvantri is worshipped. On Dhanteras, people love to purchase gold and silver items to bring prosperity into their homes.
