UK: Shocking visuals shows ‘tornado’ wreak havoc on streets

Shocking footage of a tornado sweeping through the streets of east London has gone viral on social media.

In the visual, the homes and vehicles can be seen damaging due to the tornado. The unseen footage shared on social media showed collapsed garden walls, fallen tree branches, and bricks strewn across driveways across the road in Barking on Friday.

A devastating video was shared by a Twitter user which showed destructions due to the tornado in Barking.

“Tornado in Barking, East London. WOW’, while another wrote: ‘How is there a whole tornado in Barking.’


According to metro.co.uk, police told that they were alerted about the reports of damage to roofs, electrical equipment, and vehicles in the area of Hulse Avenue at around 07:20 pm.


The Metropolitan Police’s Barking and Dagenham Twitter account said: ‘This is a weather-related incident, during which there was a lightning strike.”

However, there were no reports of casualties in the area.


“Officers are liaising with the local authority to ensure support is available to anyone affected by damage to property,” the statement reads.

Barking and Dagenham Council tweeted: “We’re aware of the severe weather damage in the Barking area and our immediate response team along with the police and fire brigade are on hand sorting any issues.”

While the Met Office forecaster Matthew Box said "it is probable that a brief tornado did occur."

On Friday, the Met office had also issued a yellow thunderstorm warning which expired at 11 pm.
