Kuchibhotla grew up in Hyderabad and thereafter went to the US to pursue engineering at the University of Texas.Kuchibhotla worked as an aviation systems engineer and programs manager.

The accused fired shots at Srinivas Kuchibhotla and his friend Alok Madasani. While Kuchibhotla died instantly his friend Alok Madasani was injured.

This was one of the initial racial shooting that happened immediately after President Trump took to office in January 2017. This shooting even raised a concern of racial prejudice.

Even Trump was questioned and criticised a couple of times for not commenting on the incident. Post this tragic incident a lot of people mourned his death and marched through the Kansas City.

Then after Kuchibhotla's wife, Sunayana Dumala was invited to Trump's first State of the Union address in January.

In a video statement, Kuchibhotla's wife Sunayana Dumala said, "Today's sentencing in the murder of my husband will not bring back my Srinu, but it sends a strong message that hate is never acceptable."
