Imran Khan's Living Conditions Revealed: Inside Attock Jail's High Observation Block

Imran Khan's Living Conditions in Jail Revealed

Islamabad [Pakistan]: The living conditions of Pakistan's former prime minister Imran Khan, who is currently lodged at Attock Jail, have been detailed in a report submitted by the attorney general's office on behalf of the jail administration.

Pakistan's Supreme Court sought this report to assess the facilities being provided to Imran Khan, considering his profile and legal status.


Secure Confinement in High Observation Block
The report highlighted that Block No.02 in Attock Jail, known for its secure confinement, was designated as the high observation block for Imran Khan's confinement. This section consists of four cells, ensuring his safety.

Cell Specifications and Amenities
Imran Khan has been confined to a cell measuring 09x11. The cell has been whitewashed, and the flooring has been cemented. A ceiling fan has been installed for ventilation.

The washroom allocated to him has been extended to 7x4 feet, with raised walls of five feet. A 2-12x5-foot fibre door has been installed. The washroom is equipped with a toilet seat, Muslim shower, tissue stand, stainless steel tap, and a wash basin with a large-looking glass for ablution and face wash.

Dietary Preferences
Imran Khan's dietary preferences are being accommodated. He is served desi chicken twice a week as per his request. Additionally, he is provided with mutton cooked in ghee.

Staff Deployment and Inmate Amenities
To ensure his safety, 53 jail personnel from Punjab have been temporarily deployed. Imran Khan's living quarters are equipped with essential amenities, including a cot mattress, four pillows, a table, a chair, a prayer mat, and an air cooler.

Reading Material
Imran Khan has access to reading material, which includes four copies of the Holy Quran with an English translation and 25 books on Islamic history. Newspapers are also provided to keep him updated with current affairs.

Legal Case and Sentencing
Imran Khan was sentenced to three years in prison on August 5 by a Pakistan district and sessions court. The conviction was related to the Toshakhana case, involving the illegal sale of state gifts. He was also disqualified from politics for five years and fined PKR 100,000.

Imran Khan's Response
Imran Khan, despite expressing his disappointment with being in jail, has noted that he does not wish to remain confined there. He has reported distressing conditions within his prison cell.
